Self portrait, 2012
Rosemary paints most frequently in watercolor and oil. She loves both transparency and spontaneity of watercolor and the rich color and texture of oil. Occasionally though, she takes up her pastels, especially for portraits. Although she trained at the University of Minnesota and Hamline University in St. Paul MN, she did not start painting seriously until years later, when she realized that creative expression was an essential aspect of her life. In recent years she has studied with local landscape painter Dan Mackerman. Among her favorite subjects are the natural world and scenes from her extensive travels, especially in Ireland. She has displayed at the Minnesota State Fair, Edina Art Center, Banfil Locke Art Center, St. Matthew”s Episcopal Church’s Undercroft Gallery and many other local venues, winning numerous awards.
